TLC Placement Test
*Starting January 1, 2025, Trinity Language Centre (TLC) will stop providing the In-House Placement Test for future prospective students. The reason is that the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) will update the Admission Requirements in its Private Training Act Manual in 2025. According to the updated Admission Requirements, “[i]nstitution developed (in-house) English language tests are not permitted and cannot be used to evaluate whether a student meets the language proficiency requirement(s) as part of a program’s admission requirements” (p. 26). As a PTIRU-approved institution, TLC must abide by this updated regulation; therefore, the TLC In- House Placement Test will be terminated by December 31, 2024. For students holding a TLC In-House Placement Test result, it will be valid for two years from the date of the test.
A key component of the TLC system is the assessment of learners into appropriate language learning categories. CAEL, IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, PTE, and Cambridge English test scores are accepted in the application of TLC. The official transcripts of these tests are required to display upon enrolment. Please see below for the detailed conversion between different test scores and the corresponding levels of studies at TLC.
